Commercial and Open Source
Softwares
There are a number of programs
and program packages for the adjustment of geodetic
networks. They can be classified to commercial and open
source groups. Although open source softwares are free of
charge, they are not as user friendly as commercial
ones. Moreover, they are to some extent limited both in
practical applications (limitations in the number of
observations for example) and capabilities (not appropriate
for regional and global scale geodetic nets for example). Commercial softwares commonly used for the
adjustment of geodetic networks are STARNET, COLOMBUS and
GEOLAB.
The GNU Gama program package is
an early developed open source program. Like other open
source program packages, Gama is also written for Unix-like
operating systems. The program is written in C++ and can be
installed and used in different versions of Linux.
Interested students are
referred to the homepages of these softwares for further
details.
