Open Channel Hydraulics

Course Objectives

  • To develop the basic principles of fluid mechanics with applications to open channels, emphasising on the application of the Bernoulli principle and momentum equation.
  • To bring a basic understanding of the hydraulics of rivers, waterways and man-made canals, for undergraduate students in civil, environmental and hydraulic engineering.

Course in Brief

        1. Introduction (مقدمه)

    2. Open-Channel Flow Classifications  (تقسیم بندی جریان در کانال های باز)

    3. Open Channels and Their Properties  (خواص کانال های باز)

    4. Energy and Momentum Principles(اصول بقای انرژی و اندازه حرکت)

    5. Critical Flow (جریان های بحرانی)

    6. Development of Uniform Flow and Its Formulas (جریان های یکنواخت )

    7. Design of Channels for Uniform Flow (طراحی کانال ها در جریان های یکنواخت)

    8. Gradually Varied Flow (جریان متغیر تدریجی)

Requirements

  • The course is taught in Farsi and requires participants to be familiar with Statics principles.

  • To carry distributed notes and personal calculator during the course sessions.

  • It is assumed that the students have had an introductory course in fluid mechanics and that they are familiar with the basic principles of fluid mechanics: continuity, momentum, energy and Bernoulli principles.
