The aim of this course is to provide a unified introduction for students and practitioners to three distinct and closely related topics:

• Fundamental of numerical analysis and scientific computing

• Techniques for solving linear systems and linear least-squares problems, and for updating matrix factorizations

• Numerical methods for solving eigenvalue problems

Matrix Computations, by Golub and Van Loan, 3rd Edition, The Johns Hopkins University Press, 1996

  • Numerical Linear Algebra and Optimization, by Gill, Murray and Wright, Addison-Wesley Publishing Company, 1991
