- Abstract
In this thesis, a small scale beverage cooler based on thermoelectric technology is designed and fabricated. This cooler is capable to cool down a coke can within 20 minutes. Although the theoretical efficiency of thermoelectric cooler is proved to be very low, it has some advantages which makes it a good choice for small scale cooling. Specifically, for the present purpose where the target is fabricating a portable cooler for cars, these devices are good choices because they are cheap, light, silent and small compared to traditional cooling cycles. The design process is somehow complex because this device contains various thermodynamic phenomena including Joule heating, natural and forced convection, heat transfer in solid and liquid. Hence, for a perfect design, the whole cooler is simulated numerically using FEM softwares. Then a prototype is fabricated and the results are compared.Faculty of Mechanical Eng. of K. N.
