Professor Hamedi’s research focuses on the development of computational techniques for the solution of problems in fluid mechanics and aerodynamics, including transonic flows with shock waves, turbulent flows with chemical reaction, and unsteady flows with fluid-structure interactions. The goal of this research is to develop efficient techniques for the solution of both ideal (i.e., inviscid) and dissipative (i.e., viscous) approximations to the equations of fluid mechanics for these problems. Present formulations are based on finite-volume and finite element approximations to the differential equations on both structured and unstructured grid systems. The former allow the use of efficient implicit algorithms, while the latter are more readily applicable to problems involving complex geometries.
